Kawena
Hula Dancer “Good Morning Hawai’i”
I was born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Most of my childhood days were spent dancing hula. In my spare time I was at the beach and hiking in the mountains of my backyard. My parents started me in hula at the age of three. As a child I danced at shows all over Waikiki and I’m proud to say that I’m still doing shows at the same hotels I danced at in my younger years.
Currently, I dance at Magic of Polynesia, a show at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel, and I am president of my own company Kawena Productions. My company specializes in Polynesian entertainment. In my spare time I love to surf, swim, hike, play tennis, and travel. Soon I will be graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in Hawaiian Language.
The love of my life is hula and will always be one of my biggest passions. My goal is to one day become a successful actress and entertainer. But for now I am focusing on the Miss Hawaii Pageant, I am currently Miss East Oahu. In the future I would like to write a movie or two that shows the life of a Pacific Islander to people across the world. I want to be a part of reviving my culture of Hawaii; in the future I would like to establish a Hawaiian language radio station and TV show. One of my strongest dreams is to tour Oceania with a Polynesian show that I helped choreograph and create. Hula is a way of life that I strive to live by everyday. I always try to remember “we make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give”.
